When the ISB later filed its lawsuit, it initially sued media outlets—the Boston Herald and Fox News—for repeated reports that mixed fact, allegation, and outright fabrication. When documents revealed that members of the David Project had actively in planned those articles with journalists, they were added to the lawsuit.
One may debate the lawsuit’s legal merits. But a defamation claim based on scare-mongering journalism is far different from an attempt to silence a community group for asking questions.
We must never ignore anti-Semitism. But neither should we promote fear of Boston’s large Muslim community, nor undermine its right to build a house of worship. Isolation and demonization will not build a safe and healthy community. But perhaps honest dialogue and communication will.
